50,000

Sorry about that little breakdown… I am better now. I still despise my novel, but I’m getting through it, I guess. At least there’s one thing this novel is good for – an unexpected bit character popped up a few chapters ago, vanished, and just re-appear, very politely and subtly demanding a larger part in the novel. I can’t really work him in, but I’m consoling him with the fact that I will certainly be drawing pictures and writing one-shots about him in the future. His name is Amadre, he is a faery, and he’s pretty dang cool :D

I hit 50k this afternoon, but I don’t really feel like I’ve won. Maybe because the novel isn’t finished. I dunno.

In other news, I am just fangirling over EVERYTHING lately. A NaNoWriMo pep talk from Tamora Pierce arrived in my inbox today, so I’m obsessing over her again, I’m trying to track down every single Paul Bettany has ever been in, I dreamed about Pirates of the Carribean and am now mourning the fact that I don’t have the first move (the only one I really loved), Neil Gaiman (but then, I’m always obsessed with him), Oscar Wilde (read something about that new Dorian Gray movie that just came out recently), Bartimaeus Trilogy (as always) yeah. I think I’m the biggest fangirl I know. XD

I don’t have anything else to say at the moment. Thanks for your comments on the last blog, though. They really helped.

I am so bored.

Last year around this time, I was freaking out about not being able to write my novel because I had no idea what was going to happen. I had barely any outline at all, almost no idea of that the end of the story was going to be like.
Today I am freaking out because I DO know what is going to happen. Every single thing. I outlined EVERY scene. And my novel is being so boring that not only would I not want to read it if I picked it up at a library or bookstore, I am having trouble writing it. I’ve been telling, not showing, which I hate, but it’s like I’ve forgotten how to show. My characters are dull. I’m even at a part of my story that was supposed to be super exciting – I was so looking forward to writing it, and now it’s hard to even sit at the computer to type it down because it’s so bland and boring.
I’m never going to do anything with this story other than get the Createspace proof copy, I just need it out of my head, so I almost feel like I shouldn’t bother trying to make it exciting, but I don’t want to give up on it. I want to write an EPICALLY AWESOME Bartimaeus Trilogy fanfic, I want to continue my other work in progress, I want to start drawing more again, I want I want I want I want…
I want to do anything but write this story, pretty much, but I NEED to finish it.

I need help.

I’m going to ask for a camera for Christmas! Well, my mom and I are. My problem is, I know nothing about cameras. I don’t know what model to get or anything. It can’t be hugely expensive (mid-range price) and it has to have macro capabilities.

I want to do some research and look at various models before I ask for it, so if anyone has links, that would be lovely! Thank you very much :3

A freaking amazing comic artist – does primarily fanart. If you like Labyrinth/Phantom of the Opera/Les Miserables/Neil Gaiman/Just about any awesome fandom, check out her comic, Girls Next Door. It is the funniest thing in the history of funny things.

NaNoWriMo update!
33,949 and I have yet to hit the Week Two wall – things are still going great, I’m almost right on schedule – I’m trying to write a chapter a day.
If you’re doing NaNo – are you going to take advantage of the CreateSpace offer (get a free proof-copy of your novel) if/when you win?
I definately am. I forgot about it last year, but I wish I had done it. This year I will have a real novel I can… hide from people. Yeah. XD

Just your generic NaNoWriMo update :)

Day six was a drag. I really didn’t feel like writing all day. But I did it anyway, since I barely got anything done the day before. (distracted by the wonder that is high-speed internet). Day seven has been a bit better, but I kinda procrastinated like… a lot (playing my bass guitar which finally has new strings on it, and writing a Bartimaeus Trilogy drabble. You KNOW you’re a bad procrastinator when your procrastinate from writing by… writing.) So I am at a little over 16,500 words, so I guess I’m almost caught up (my goal is at least 75k, by the way. But mainly I want to finish the book) and am now rewarding myself with some Bartimaeus Trilogy fanfiction, which is my new second-favorite fandom (the first being Labyrinth, of course.) I’m also finally past that ‘hump’ where I always got stuck and started over every other time I’ve tried to write this story, and while it’s still annoying and stupid and frustrating to write, I did it. That’s what matters at the moment. I’m just so glad I got past that part before the dreaded Week Two.

I’m really excited to ACTUALLY be writing this story. I have been trying to write it, or some variation on it, since I was twelve years old. It’s changed and evolved tremendously since then, and a certain one of my characters changed with every new version, which is interesting. I don’t even particularly want to DO anything with this story anymore, publish it or share it or anything (i might, but we’ll see.) It just needs to be written. Maybe then my characters will shut up about it, although I doubt that Dreymeian (my main character) will ever leave me alone. He is my muse as well as my favorite character, and he knows it. He thinks he can get away with messing up my story (or HIS story, as he seems to think) as much as he wants. Which he can. Sigh. He’s always weaseling into my other stories, none of which are fantasy, and any RPGs I try to do. XD

So, yeah. Halloween was good, I now have blue hair, I just bought neon pink combat boots for $12 at WalMart, and I get to see my BFF tomorrow. Happy. :)

How is NaNo going for you all? I hope everything is well :) Much love!

Title: “Make A Wish”
Fandom: The Bartimaeus Trilogy
Rating: PG
Genre: Angst/Friendship/Romance(implied)
Words: 319
Pairing(s): Kitty/Bartimaeus
Summary: There’s only one wish he doesn’t know how to grant.

Author’s Note:
You know something is wrong when you procrasinate from writing your novel by writing a fanfic. Oh well.

“Make A Wish”

SO!

How is NaNoWriMo going for you folks who are doing it?

I am currently at 6,842 words, and I have not done any writing today. I finally have internets for a second (I’m at my friend’s house for the week, and there are no internets there) so I’m procrastinating my butt off. Haha.

Soooo… yeah. That’s all I really had to say. The novel is going well :) Unfortunately I have a cold. sigh.

Oh, and if anyone is curious, this is my main character:
Dreymeian_by_x_VelvetChains_x

Not a very good drawing, but oh well. :)

Title: “Promises”
Fandom: The Bartimaeus Trilogy
Rating: PG
Genre: Er… I don’t know o_o I want to say romance, but it isn’t. I want to say angst, but it definitely isn’t. I want to say tragedy, but it isn’t that either. Damn it, what else to fanfic-ers write? O_o Okay, my genre: Awesome. *nods*
Words: 888
Pairing(s): Kitty/Bartimaeus
Summary: Years later, a dying Kitty makes one last trip to the Other Place.

Author’s Note: Kayso, you will not understand this, like, at ALL, unless you’ve read all three books in ‘The Bartimaeus Trilogy’. Which you should anyway, because they are amazing (don’t be fooled by how slow the first two are. it’s worth it for book three. for friggin’ serious.) Go ahead and read them. I’ll wait for you.

…Done? Good. Now you may read this fanfic.

Sooo, yeah, just speculating, mostly. A bit rambley. I should be sleeping, but instead I wrote this in about… two hours. Maybe less. Will be uploading it to FF.net too. Let me know what you think.

“Promises”

Once in a while

Digital painting with a Genius MousePen tablet in Photoshop 7. Reference photo used: http://fav.me/d1evab0 (which is much more prettyfuller than this, btw, so go look at it.

Practicing with my tablet :D I like it. The tablet, I mean, not the picture. I’m not entirely happy with the picture.

And now, as I promised – I will feature some writing and artwork by people who are far more awesome than I am. Which is pretty easy, but still. Maybe I’ll make this a regular thing – every Thursday? :)

Without further ado, here they are!

Artist and Photographer of the week:

Miss-Deathwish: A writer of amazing prose and poetry (prosetry?) as well as one of the best photographers I’ve ever seen on deviantART. She has some drawings up, too, she’s very multi-talented. Unfortunately she’s been forced to take down a lot of her writing for fear of it being stolen (it’s happened to her a lot. grr.), but I think she’s still got a bit up there. Warning: A bit of bloody/horror sort of stuff up there. Okay, more than a bit. But nothing so extreme that she needs a mature content filter on it – just might not want to show it to say, a 6-year-old. XD

NineInjections: One of my favorite illustrators. Really interesting style, right on that edge of realism and anime/manga. Plus her ‘Black Velvet’ project is really awesome. Warning: Some nudity/sexual themes, but they’re easy to avoid.

Story of the Week:

“Tales from the House Of The Moon” by Resmiranda.
Yes, it’s a fanfic. Yes, it’s InuYasha. Yes, it’s SesshomaruxKagome, which is normally quite laughable (though not at laughable as, say, InuYashaxSesshomaru. *twitch*). Yes, you’re probably laughing at me for the fact that this fanfic is probably one of my favorite books.
But it’s not like any fanfic you will EVER read. For one thing, it’s huge, definately novel-length, she goes into a lot more depth with the characters and their motivations than they do in the series, the most annoying characters (i.e., almost all of them) are DEAD DEAD DEAD MUAHAHAH *cough* and… the plot is awesome.
Trust me on this. You might not even need to have seen InuYasha to enjoy this, though you might at least want to hop on Wikipedia and look at whatever synopsis they have.
It’s Romance/Angst/Comedy (kinda like the series itself… but with more angst), but the romance doesn’t come in until the end (where, in fact, there is a very well written sex scene that you may skip if you want, but there’s some character development involved there, so I wouldn’t recommend skipping it.) The warning Resmiranda puts on it is ” X – Adult: No readers under 18. Contains Graphic Adult Themes/Extreme violence”, but I didn’t think it was really that extreme. Use your own judgement :)
If you end up reading it, let me know – NO ONE else I know will read it, and I want to gush about it with someone.

Thanks for looking at them! And sorry about all the mature content warnings XD I’m not that morbid… usually.

Random note: GODDESS HELP ME. My house has been invaded by ladybugs and demon-wasps. Yes, it is definitely Autumn! I can’t wait for Halloween. I do believe I’ll go as a zombie. Now I just need some sort of princess/cheerleader/prom queen costume I can zombiefy and I’ll be all set. What will you be dressing up as?

Fending off wasps,

<3 Brigid.

Short story: Windows

Mmm… so this isn’t very good. Like, at all. XD Buuuuut what the hell. Originally written in my journal, so I had to type it up and edit it, because I cannot write coherently by hand :P Somewhat personal. A bit. Sort of. Meh.

Windows.

100 Themes Challenge

I’m betting most people, especially artsy/writerly sorts, have heard of this — but just in case, I thought I’d throw it out there.

Basically, the 100 themes challenge is… well, a list of 100 themes. You have to write/draw/whatever 100 things inspired by each of those themes. There’s tons of variations (if you have any interesting ones you’ve run across, by the way, I’d like to see them – I’m quite picky, and I haven’t ever found just the right one) out there, a lot of which are here, but if you google it I’m sure you’ll find a lot. I have two saved, I think. Clicketh to see them. And more of the post.

Muzak!

So I’ve mentioned that I love music. Like, a lot. :P I thought I should, you know, mention what KIND of music I like.

Right now – mostly rock and metal. But that varies a lot. Right now I’m really into My Chemical Romance (yeah, I know a lot of people hate them, buut… come on. They really don’t deserve the bad rap they get.), Flogging Molly, A Perfect Circle, Modest Mouse… etc. And like, a million others. You know what? To really get a grasp of my musical tastes, look at my Pandora stations. The one called “Awesome Shit” is my general purpose station, and it will play anything from ‘Breathe (2 AM)’ by Anna Nalick to Disturbed to Flogging Molly to Billy Joel to The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus to Queen… it kinda plays everything. Haha.
The second one, labelled “Music That Makes Me Look Like A Scene Kid” is… exactly what it sounds like. :P

Here’s the link to it: http://www.pandora.com/people/brididgid666

So, what kind of music do you folks like? Got a Pandora station? Do you listen to music while you write or draw or whatever creative thing you do, if any? (I do. I can’t draw without music, and the majority of my writing projects are inspired by songs.)

Rocking out,

<3 Brigid.

Seeing as this is meant to be a writing blog, I thought I should start with something writing related.

National Novel Writing Month! Also known as NaNoWriMo! Write a 50,000 word novel in thirty days! Use too many exclamation points!
Who’s doing it?
I am. I did it last year, too, minus the too many exclamation points (got to 63,820 words with my paranormal romance. I still can’t bear to look at it, it sucks, but what can you do.) This year I’m writing fantasy, which scares me a little bit — every time I’ve tried writing fantasy, I’ve sucked really hard. But my characters have been in my head since… well, some incarnation of them have been in my head since I was like, 11 or 12 and seriously started writing, but they’ve changed and grown along with me. They are my babies and the main character is my muse — of course they won’t leave me alone until I get this damn story down. Sigh.

I don’t even quite understand my plot enough to summarize it well, but — Faeries. Demons. Dreams. Soul mates (literally.) Addiction to magic.
Curious? Me too. XD Well, if you are interested in it, feel free to ask me anything. I’m good at answering questions, bad at just telling people things. :P

Anyhow, I’ve got my outline mostly done other than some re-arranging of scenes, but by my estimate, it will probably end up being around 84,550 words, which is around 2020 per day. Eeek.

So, are you doing NaNo? Chances are, you are, since I bet if you’re reading this you very well may have come from NaNo site. What are you writing about? Wanna be my buddy on www.nanowrimo.org? :D

And now, for the reasons you should continue reading this blog:
Well, I actually don’t have a reason for that. I do, however, have some things I hope to use this blog for.

  • Links! Lots and lots of links. Links to blogs, links to writing or art resources… links. :D
  • Features! I plan on regularly featuring drawings, photography, writing, etc. Maybe a ‘of-the-week’ sort of thing.
  • Music! Because I like music. A lot. There will be ranting, I’m sure.
  • Book reviews! If I stop being lazy and try to write one!
  • My art and writing! Or links to it!
  • Exclamation points!

Maybe that interests you, maybe not. But I hope it does.

Freaking out just slightly about the multitude of words,

<3 Brigid.
